A practical AI governance roadmap

We start by identifying what AI already exists across the business. This typically includes:

  • Built-in AI features within Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms
  • Pilot projects or proofs of concept running in Azure or other clouds
  • Third-party AI tools used by teams such as marketing, HR, or fundraising

This AI register gives a clear picture of where governance effort should be focused first.

Step 2: Classify data and define risk levels
