What is Claude Cowork?

How is Cowork different from normal Claude chat?
Chat responds one message at a time and leaves the doing to you. Cowork takes a goal, works your files and applications through multiple steps and returns a finished deliverable.
Is it safe to give AI access to our files?
Access is scoped to folders you approve, deletions require your explicit permission, and progress is visible throughout. We set the boundaries deliberately as part of any rollout, and start narrow.
What tasks is it actually good at?
Document assembly, research synthesis, spreadsheet building, file organisation and formatting work: tasks that are time consuming but not judgement heavy. The judgement calls stay with your people.
What do we need to run it?
The Claude desktop app on a paid plan. It is included on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with admin controls for organisations, and we help teams set it up well from day one.
How is Claude Cowork different from Microsoft Copilot Cowork?
They aim at the same idea from different ends. Copilot Cowork works across Microsoft 365, where your mail, documents and meetings already are. Claude Cowork works on a folder you point it at and is generally stronger on long, multi-step reasoning. Plenty of businesses will use both.
Who in the business should get it first?
Whoever spends the most time producing documents from other documents: bid teams, finance, operations, anyone assembling reports. The payback is obvious there and much harder to see for roles that mostly answer email.
What is it not good at?
Anything needing judgement it cannot check, or work where being subtly wrong is expensive and hard to notice. It is a drafting and doing tool, not a decision maker, and the review step is not optional.
