What is OpenAI Frontier?
Frontier is OpenAI’s enterprise platform for deploying production AI agents. Its point of difference is integration with systems of record, so agents work from shared business context rather than from context a person supplies each time.
How is it different from building on the API directly?
You can build agents on the API, and for contained jobs you should. Frontier addresses what comes after: connecting core systems, managing those connections centrally, and having one place to see what is running.
Do we need this, or is Copilot Studio enough?
It depends where the work sits. If the systems are Microsoft, Copilot Studio is usually the shorter path. If the agent has to reach a data warehouse, a non-Microsoft CRM and a ticketing tool, Frontier is built for that shape.
Can an agent change records in our systems?
It can, and that is exactly the decision to make deliberately. We separate read-only work from anything that writes, and put an approval step on the writes until there is a track record.
What about data leaving our environment?
That is a question for your security team and it should be answered before a build starts, not after. We scope which systems are in play and what actually gets sent, so the review has something concrete to assess.
How long before it does anything useful?
One well-chosen workflow is usually a matter of weeks. The delay is rarely the agent. It is getting agreement on what it may touch and who signs off the actions it takes.
What happens when our systems change?
Agents break quietly when the systems underneath move. We set an owner, monitoring and a review point for each one, because an agent nobody owns is a problem waiting to surface.
Do you work with OpenAI only?
No. We build on Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI and open-source tools, and we pick based on where your data sits and what you are trying to do. We will tell you when a simpler option would do the job.
