Independent advice councils can act on
We help Australian councils get Microsoft 365, Power Platform and records systems under control: reviews, roadmaps and hands-on support, written for action rather than the shelf.
Why it matters
Platforms grow faster than governance
Councils accumulate technology: Microsoft 365, Power Platform apps, records systems, each added for good reasons and each growing its own habits. Over time nobody is quite sure what is running where, what it costs, or whether it would pass an audit.
Our advisory work answers those questions plainly. We review what you have, compare the options on their merits, and leave you with recommendations ranked by risk and effort, then stay to help implement if you want us to.
- A clear picture of what is running and what it costs
- Recommendations ranked by risk and effort
- Support through implementation, not just a report
What we build
Where councils ask us to look first
Most councils start with one review that answers a live question. Each engagement stands on its own and builds a roadmap you own.
What good looks like for councils
Two real projects for Queensland councils.
a Central Queensland council
Power Platform governance
Power Platform and Microsoft 365 had grown across seven environments with misconfigurations, security concerns and little governance.
We assessed the environments, delivered best practice recommendations across security, governance and training, and stayed on for hands-on implementation support.
Outcomes
- Governance across 7 environments
- 1,400 monthly workflow runs under control
- Stronger security and compliance
Mareeba Shire Council
EDRMS assessment
The council needed to move records management to the cloud and wanted the options compared properly before committing.
We ran stakeholder workshops, evaluated the candidates against functional and compliance criteria, recommended a preferred solution and mapped the licensing options for cost.
Outcomes
- Clear recommendation with reasons
- Licensing compared for value
- A roadmap the council owns
Safe by design
Council decisions face public scrutiny. Our advice is independent, written in plain language, and backed by evidence you can put in front of councillors and auditors.
How we work
- Independent advice with the reasoning shown
- Evidence behind every recommendation
- Plain language for council reports
- Compliance obligations front of mind
- Knowledge handed over, not held back
Questions we hear most
What does a governance review actually cover?
What is running, who can access it, how it is secured, what it costs, and how it compares to best practice. You get findings ranked by risk with a recommended order of work.
We think our Power Platform use has sprawled. Is that common?
Very. Apps and flows accumulate because they are useful. a Central Queensland council had seven environments and about 1,400 workflow runs a month when we reviewed theirs.
Can you help us choose a records system?
Yes. We compare candidates against your compliance obligations and requirements, and give you a recommendation with the reasoning shown, as we did for Mareeba Shire Council.
Do you just leave a report?
Only if that is what you want. Most councils keep us on to help implement the recommendations, and we hand over knowledge as we go.
Are you on government procurement panels?
Yes. CG TECH is an approved supplier on Federal, State and Local Government ICT and Professional Services panels, including BuyICT.
Where should we start?
With the question that is bothering you now, an audit finding, a cost, a risk. One focused review usually answers it and shows what to do next.
Can you review something a previous supplier built?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We look at what it does now, what it was meant to do, and what it would take to put it right, without assuming the answer is to start again.
How do you leave councils able to run it themselves?
By building with your team rather than around them, documenting the decisions and keeping the design as plain as the job allows. If only we can maintain it, we have not finished.
