Retirement Living Operator

This client is one of the country’s largest privately owned retirement living operators, running dozens of villages across several Australian states.

The challenge

Their reporting was manual and split across separate apps, each with its own licence.

What we did

We built one Microsoft Fabric platform, modelled the data and set up Power BI, with training to extend it.

Insight was locked inside separate applications that each carried their own licence. We built one data platform in Microsoft Fabric instead.

Why it mattered

Reporting was manual and siloed, with each application producing its own view and charging its own licence for the privilege. That meant leaders were paying repeatedly for a fragmented picture, and analysts were spending their time assembling numbers rather than interpreting them. Data needed to come together from Salesforce, Snowflake and on-premises databases before any of it could be trusted as one story.

What we did

  • Set up the tenant for Fabric. Configured Microsoft 365 with the right capacity reservation licensing.
  • Built the environment. A new Fabric environment with Lakehouse, notebooks, pipelines and SQL views.
  • Connected the sources. Ingestion from Salesforce, Snowflake and on-premises databases into one place.
  • Set roles and permissions. Access assigned for key users from the start.
  • Built capability alongside delivery. Worked with their data engineers, business analysts and IT admins so the skills stayed in the building.
  • Tuned it after go-live. Ongoing monitoring and optimisation rather than a hand-off and goodbye.

The difference it made

  • A Power BI report suite giving richer operational insight than the old siloed views.
  • Legacy reporting retired, taking its separate licence costs with it.
  • Faster data engineering and analysis work on a platform built for it.
  • Stronger data literacy internally, with self-service rather than report requests.
  • A platform that scales as the organisation grows.
