What is AvePoint?
AvePoint is a platform that backs up, governs and protects Microsoft 365. We use it to back up your tenant, manage records properly, and keep permissions and policies in line as you grow. CG TECH is an AvePoint partner.
Microsoft already hosts our data. Why do we need a backup?
Microsoft keeps the service running, but long term recovery of your content is your responsibility. Once recycle bins and retention windows pass, data is gone. A separate backup means you can restore items weeks or months later.
What does AvePoint back up?
Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, with restores down to a single email, file or conversation. Coverage for Google Workspace and Salesforce is also available.
Can it help with records compliance?
Yes. AvePoint Opus applies your retention and disposal rules automatically and keeps the evidence, which is what auditors and records legislation actually ask for.
Does this help before we turn on Copilot?
A lot. AvePoint shows where content is overshared and helps lock it down, so Copilot only answers from material people are meant to see.
Do we need the whole platform or can we start small?
Start with the piece that hurts most, usually backup or oversharing. Each part works on its own and more can be added later.
How quickly can you restore something?
It depends on what was lost. A single file or mailbox item is quick. A whole site or a large mailbox takes longer. We agree the targets up front and test a restore, because a backup that has never been restored is only a hope.
Who should own this once it is running?
Usually IT owns the backup, and the records or compliance side sits with the business. We set it up so the day to day work is small, and we train whoever is picking it up.
