This client is an Australian building services and mechanical contractor specialising in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration for commercial buildings.
The challenge
The client wanted to try Microsoft Fabric before a wider rollout.
What we did
We stood up a pilot with OneLake, daily data pipelines and a curated Power BI report on their key data.
They needed proof Microsoft Fabric would pay off before committing to it. We ran a pilot on real data.
Why it mattered
Committing to a new data platform across a business is a significant decision, and vendor demonstrations tend to use tidy data. AE Smith wanted to see Fabric working on their own business tables, in their own environment, before deciding whether it was worth adopting more widely.
What we did
- Provisioned the workspace. Microsoft Fabric with a OneLake-first architecture.
- Built real pipelines. Ingesting and transforming up to five key business tables, refreshing daily.
- Modelled it properly. A star schema for clarity and performance rather than a quick proof.
- Delivered a working report. A curated Power BI report demonstrating business value on their own numbers.
- Documented and handed over. As-built documentation plus a knowledge-sharing session with their internal team.
