This client is the government authority responsible for bulk water supply across South East Queensland, managing dams, catchments and water treatment for millions of residents.
The challenge
The client wanted to modernise how it shares corporate governance content, but the old intranet was hard to use.
What we did
We built a hub and themed sites on SharePoint Online, branded and easy to use.
The old intranet made governance content hard to find and harder to keep current. We rebuilt it as a proper corporate governance portal.
Why it mattered
For a bulk water authority, the corporate governance framework is not reference material that can sit in a folder somewhere. Staff and leadership need to see how strategy, structure and governance drivers fit together. The SharePoint 2016 intranet they had lacked the flexibility and user experience for that, and it did not reflect their brand or serve their range of user groups.
What we did
- Built a hub with five themed sites. External Environment, Strategy and Business Plans, Organisational Structure, Capability Enablers and Governance Drivers.
- Branded it to the framework. Custom site themes using Seqwater colours and their framework wheel, so the portal looks like the model it represents.
- Made the content interactive. Pop-ups, infographics and hyperlinks rather than flat documents.
- Set role-based permissions. Access managed through SharePoint groups.
- Tested it with real users. Structured user acceptance testing with the feedback built back in.
- Trained the custodians. As-built documentation and content management training so site owners can keep it current.
The difference it made
- Governance visible and navigable for staff and leadership rather than buried.
- Faster onboarding, with new staff able to see how the organisation fits together.
- Less time lost looking for governance material.
- Content owners able to maintain their own sites without going through IT.
The results
What Bulk Water Authority got
Governance content easy to find
A hub linking five themed governance sites
Branded, modern sites
Built to the client’s style guide and colour palette
Smoother staff onboarding
Site custodians trained to manage their own content
